Review of Barbarella (1968) by Pondering T — 26 Nov 2007
Femenist (ahem) "Hanoi" Jane's classic tale of superherodum (if one lived in a world of acid flashbacks worlds where backdrops are the insides of lava lamps and five dollar movie sets rein). The acting is....limited, the plot (of what there is), funny and exactly what one would expect from this type of film, but it is one of those types of midnight movies that rarely is made anymore and is definately more fun then most of the teen/Disney teen turned singer flicks one sees now a days. Worth your time if only as a peek into the world of the orgasmatron. Like most movies of this genre it drags a bit by the end, but where else are you going to see Jane at her woman power best?
A remake is in the works apparently (seems there may be hope from Mz Spears movie career after all... shudder... I would not hope they would ruin such a classic with that casting but it would be somewhat like art imitating life). I can see the remake now .... all special effects and little of the charm that made this a bad movie yes, but so bad it is good and definately high on the list of the best of any B-movies you will ever see.
