Review of Barbarella (1968) by Lain G — 10 Mar 2013
This is sort of like a psychedelic sexualized version of "Flash Gordon", with a female protagonist who has sex with several men, mostly it seems as a thanks for rescuing her. The film's music is lame and horrible, the acting is bad, there is badly written dialogue that is often poorly delivered, the editing is sloppy, the sets look very studio bound, and the bad special effects might be excusable if this didn't come out the same year as "2001: A Space Odyssey" AND "Planet of the Apes" (both if which stepped up the game special effects wise and managed to stand the test of time).
This is a film that is interesting for only two reasons: it is a very '60s psychedelic time capsule, and Jane Fonda looks really attractive, and when she isn't taking her clothes off the outfits are very skimpy.
