Review of Barbara (2012) by Laurent P — 08 Nov 2012
Amateurish film - typical of the current German movie elite! A very disappointing and dull film with dialogues like in a poor TV-production. No explanation is given for the strange behaviour and unemotional inter-person relationship, for the background of the main characters who act stereotypical and awkward, for the lack of any emotions and for the behaviour of the main actress that is so predictable that it hurts to watch the film to the very end.
Overall all actors performed like in a theatre play: without genuine emotions, with unnatural dialogues and awkward behaviour. While we all accept such a mediocre acting in a theatre because it is live - this is totally unacceptable in a movie.
In short: Wasted time and money! It is totally unconceivable why such a poor film won a prize at the Berlin Film Festival. It is obvious that the ambitious film-makers try to copy the theme and the atmosphere from the brilliant work of Konrad Wolf "Der getelte Himmel (1963)" but fail miserably and utterly!
