Review of Barbara (2012) by Roy S — 22 Apr 2013
Not so much a "thriller" as it is a thoughtful, quiet study of an East German woman who plans and prepares to go West. There is some oppression by the government, some measured and justifiable paranoia on her part, and some medical drama at the hospital in the provinces she is exiled to as punishment.
Everything is plausible, and nothing is shrill. It may sound boring, and though it may be for some I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was Germany's entry for the 2012 Oscars.
