Review of Barb Wire (1996) by David G — 25 Feb 2012
Is this movie a success on any kind of artistic level? Of course not. Is it a success as an exploitation of Pamela Anderson's popularity at the time, squeezing her into ever more revealing leather outfits, giving her bosom a predominant role and having her fire guns and kick ass? Oh hell yes! Even without the Pamela Anderson factor it's still a decent, if bog standard action flick with a pleasingly nasty dystopian near-future world, varied characters, good cast and solid action.
The plot is again, bog standard but entertaining with a resistance vs. evil fascist government (complete with oh so subtle Gestapo-esque uniforms) core, a MacGuffin and Pammy's bar owner/former soldier/bounty hunter/sex symbol sitting in the middle, working the situation to her advantage.
