Review of Baraka (1992) by Justin M — 13 Jun 2010
Compared to Koyaanisqatsi, and Fricke's previous work as a cinematographer, this experimental essay seems naive and contrived. Yes, Baraka is visually stunning and achieves a sense of remorse for our own human condition.
But Baraka fails, as it has no true method. It's just a pretty photo essay, and reflects on what was already said, so poetically, in Koyaanisqatsi, years earlier.
