Review of Bangkok Dangerous (2008) by Andrew L — 29 May 2011
Apparently this is a remake of a Thai film from the late 90's. I havent seen that but I have seen The Mechanic starring Charles Bronson and this feels like a lazy, half assed rip off of that, complete with the hitman taking on a young protege and a double cross.
Some differences here and there but everything this movie has to offer you've probably seen done better elsewhere. Cage is working on autopilot here, and his performance has about as much emotional impact as a lithium cocktail.
The direction is very stylish and this is great to look at but that only goes so far. In short another lame ass action movie starring Nic Cage that is entertaining enough while you're watching it, but instantly forgettable.
Too bad since every now and again Cage decides to show people that he does actually have some skill when he picks a good role. Some examples of this include Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart, Leaving Las Vegas, Bad Lieutenat, Kick Ass, 8 mm etc.
Why he continues to drag his name through the mud with pointless shit like this is beyond me. Definently not worth seeing.
