Review of Bang Bang! (2014) by Aakash G — 02 Oct 2014
"Bang Bang" the movie could well have had the title "Hrithik Hrithik" since it is his movie all the way. The movie banks on Hrithik's larger than life superstardom. Yes he can come out of blasts unscathed, yes he can pounce from the jaws of death, yes he can jump off cliffs unhurt.
He is shown as the conventional invincible hero. Considering that the movie was shot at a time when he underwent a turbulent separation, it must be lauded as a Herculean effort. The stunts are amazing but the whole movie pivots on over smartness & by the end it all seems contrived.
There is no plot, no synchrony, no logic, no room for questions that the movie allows. But when you go to see Hrithik, it's not about the movie, it's about his drop dead looks, picture perfect body, flawless dance & an inexplicable charm which is the only factor that keeps you hooked to this otherwise half baked concept.
Katrina is no match either for Hrithik's effort, moves or timing. She has been kept as an eye candy, as has always been the case with her. When you have Fox Star Studios backing a film, the director has that much more financial elbow room to exhibit scintillating action of the kind seen in Hollywood cinema.
So we have choppers, underwater & overwater shootings, F1 cars rolling out, rooftop brawls & other unseen action sequences. The director deems Hrithik's cult will pull off everything. He is right but only to an extent, making Bang Bang a one time watch, albeit with a drag.
The movie is punctuated with interesting moments in the usual boring ones & the conclusion one can draw is that the flick is a mixed bag. If you love Hrithik and razzmatazz and gloss you will love this one.
