Review of Bandslam (2009) by Char M — 24 Aug 2009
After seeing the High School Musical trilogy (1: Good, 2: Rubbish, 3: Amazing) I know any film starring Vanessa Hudgens can be hit or miss (no offense to the actor herself, more the writers), so I approached Bandslam with a somewhat sense of dubiousness.
Thankfully, the movie turned out to be better than most of my friends expected (they'd ripped it off as a simple romance before it started), including myself. Bandslam does have romance, I'll admit, but it mixes it with hilarious comedy, emotional twists and a rocking ending.
Seriously, if you're looking for an easy watch that does have some moments with deeper meaning, you could do far worse than Bandslam. So why not five stars? There's something missing. A little more humour would've been appreciated, and the running time could easily have been extended beyond two hours.
Overall, however, Bandslam has turned out to be an unexpectedly watchable film, that begs seeing if you're a teenage boy just to cringe at how unbelievably bad Wilbert is at kissing a girl (just wait until you see his kiss with Sa5m! LOL!).
