Review of Bandidas (2006) by Chula G — 04 Jul 2007
Light comedy: old western style. Penelope cruz and Salma hayek play two girl bank robbers saving old Mexico from a greedy American banker played by Dwight Yoakam wearing a greasy black wig. He moves into town and attempts to take over financial control. The action sequences are fun and silly with both women actors doing their best to bounce their jokes off of Steve Zahn.
In Old Mexico, everyone speaks English but with a Spanish accent...this is somewhat painful for me to watch but I guess it is all part of the kitchy humour. Sadly, Ms. Hayek fares better than Ms. Cruz at playing the heroine. Despite her fiesty gunwork, everytime she speaks it requires great energy to not go running from the room screaming at the top of one's lungs.
Men who watch this will be far more forgiving as both women are simply stunning to look at. If only the pairing between the beauties were not wasted on this.
