Review of Bananas!* (2009) by Caitlin F — 29 May 2008
He still had a while to go before he achieved technical mastery of the cinematic arts, but Woody Allen was already a brilliant comic artist by the time he made Bananas. He was still in his pre-Love and Death period, opting for complex sight gags and fast-paced, witty dialog instead of the subtle, slower humor of his later films.
As an all-around fan of the man I don't prefer one side of him to the other. Bananas is good comedy without any frills. And I think Woody Allen knows a thing or two about comedy.
