Review of Bananas!* (2009) by Patrick B — 19 Mar 2012
My low rating mostly comes from my dislike of Woody Allen. I think he's a great director, but whenever he's the lead in his own movie, I just can't stand him (aside from Annie Hall). He's just the same character in every single one of his movies, and he's so annoying with his sterotypical Jewish remarks.
"Bananas" had a few nice pokes at the American government, particulary our court systems and foreign policy, but that's as good as it gets pretty much. There is one great scene in the very beginning where Howard Cosell commentates on the assassination of a President like it's a sports play-by-play.
Then, of course after that scene, the Wood-man shows up and the movie takes a dive for the worse. Skip this unless you're a big fan of Allen's schtick.
