Review of Bananas (2006) by Matt K — 26 Sep 2009
A personal favorite. Maybe my third or fourth favorite Woody Allen film, but far and away the funniest. Bananas is Marx Brothers-inspired comedy of the highest order: great gags, excellent physical comedy from Allen, lewd innuendo mixed in with some sharp political satire.
Too many great scenes to recall, but the scenes with Howard Cossell are particularly classic, as well as Woody's trademark awkwardness in full slapstick mode. The absurdity gets a little too out of hand, but the gags are so consistent and well done that it actually benefits the movie.
Essential for Woody fans.
