Review of Bamboozled (2000) by Scott B — 16 Jul 2007
I consider "A Modest Proposal" to be straight-up satire, but there are some parts of "Bamboozled" that left me wondering if Spike Lee was satirizing the state of modern African-Americans or if he really did find violence to be the only option available.
The middle hour and last twenty minutes were genius, but I fear that people who do NOT study film as literary or aesthetic will not understand it to be satire. A bit long at times, but interesting directing style and script choices.
Rappaport is particularly delicious as a white guy racist against whites.
