Review of Bamboozled (2000) by Matt W — 21 Feb 2011
I'd only vaguely heard about "black face" and the type of "humor" that was delegated to Afro-Americans back then. This film pretty much summarized the crazy stereotyping and racist material that was used as comedy.
Very moving... equal parts mad and sad all throughout the movie. I could see what other reviewers mean about the heavyhanded messages but I think that's part of Spike Lee's point; he ridicules the concept of black humor by bombarding viewers with all the racist things that were prevalent from that time and hints at remnants of it in the present.
