Review of Bambi II (2006) by Dustin R — 11 Jun 2017
Unlike most straight-to-video Disney sequels where it's easy to see that there was an obvious lack of effort put onto the script and that they were made just to be cash grabs and nothing more, Bambi II feels like there was a ton of passion and effort that went behind it, and you can tell they're trying their best to faithfully capture the charm and spirit of its predecessor, which in my opinion, it successfully does.
Not to mention that despite being a direct-to-DVD film, the animation here is just downright fantastic. In fact, it looks so good to the point where it can be considered movie theater quality good. But considering that it is trying to stay as respectful to the original film as much as possible, it does also adapt some of the flaws like they still keep the cutesy scenes in this film.
But maybe the cutesy scenes are one of the things that people liked about the first one, and if they are, then I give them credit for keeping them in. I'm not too big on cutesy moments, but I don't get easily annoyed by them.
I can tolerate them, but what I love the most about this film is the relationship between Bambi and his dad, which I think is an interesting idea since their relationship was never really explored much in the first film.
