Review of Bambi (1942) by Hiatt N — 28 Sep 2012
This movie is incredible! Even if you ignore its indelible role in your childhood, it's a staggering accomplishment. A little over an hour long, every frame is pure animated beauty. The movie alternates between the heartwarming and the heartrending, dancing between the opposites with ease and grace.
Its story told mostly in pictures, Bambi is defined by moments: the majestic image of the Prince of the Forest overlooking the thicket, the melancholy snowfall following the mother's death, the unbridled joy of songbirds dancing in the springtime .
.. it has the feel of a painting, a timeless depiction of childhood, tragedy and natural beauty. Watch it with your kids, watch it with your spouse, watch it alone, it doesn't matter, the film is just as poignant.
