Review of Balto: Wolf Quest (2002) by Sabrina B — 16 Sep 2010
After about a year and a half of being encouraged to give the allegedly-infamous Balto sequels, I decided to sit back and give em a chance. I went into the movie expecting this big, overly-dramatic quest... and, I mean, the first one was pretty overly dramatic, but god almighty! I'm not saying the movie deserved to bomb... but I can see why; it was targeted at an immature audience with a drawn-out and complex plot.
Personally I didn't hate it, which makes it better than I expected... but at the beginning with the dream sequences I was thinking "jeez, pretentious much?" Then that whole pretentious, spiritual vibe followed Balto throughout his search for Aleu, and I was beginning to link Wolf's Quest with a very overly-dramatized version of fatherhood. But, then we come to the scene with the mouse and I'm like woah where are we goin with this?
Kids would not have been able to follow the plot after 45 minutes in, though I liked the sweet ending ^^ Nice alternative to killing off Aleu.
6/10.
