Review of Ball of Fire (1941) by J.b. R — 15 Apr 2011
One of those perfect Hawks films that just comes together on every level. Primarily a comedy, the film contains elements of all the things that make Hawk's works so legendary and timeless: the tense and unpredictable action, the comraderie amongst of rag-tag group of men, the central strong-willed female, etc.
Fantastic and multi-layered script by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder plays on the Snow White tale. Brilliant photography by Gregg Toland. A true classic.
