Review of Balibo (2009) by David R — 24 Aug 2009
One of the best films of the year, telling the true story of 5 Aussie (well actually including a 2 brits and a kiwi) journalists who disappeared in East Timor in the build up to the Indonesian invasion.
The story is genuinely thrilling and terrifying at points while also showing the beauty and courage of the journalists and the East Timorese. It also undercuts any criticisms as to why it takes the presence of westerners to draw any media attention to foreign conflicts.
Great performances all round, well directed and with a fantastic soundtrack, Hope this gets a big release outside of Australia!
