Review of Balibo (2009) by Shannon M — 26 Aug 2009
I Balibo this afternoon and was blown away by how good it was.
An obvious comparison can be made with Roland Joffés "The Killing Fields" which tells the story of journalists caught up in the beginnings of Khmer Rouge power in Cambodia. There's a lot of similarities in both films as they have similar themes. It's hard to criticise or compare movies with sensitive subject matter like this but quite simply, Balibo is a superior film. Everything in this film is crafted to perfection and its pace is perfect.
Every now and then you come across a movie that really hits you in the face and you know you'll remember for a long time. This is one of them.
This is the best Australian film I've seen. I hope this movie gets the international distribution it deserves.
