Review of Bajirao Mastani (2015) by Safira H — 25 Dec 2015
Grandeur and beauty just short of an epic love story.
Many people have wrongfully been comparing this movie to Devdas. Yes it is an epic Sanjay Leela Bhansali film with extravagant sets, music, and drama. But one thing is for sure Bajorao Mastani although with a similar plot structure it is a very different story co produced by Kishore Lulla. Bajirao (Singh) was superb in his every micro expression depicting a war monger who has fallen in love with someone his people would never accept on one hand, but also needing the support and devotion of his first wife. Mastani (Padukone) seemed to be very one dimensional by her sole purpose being to be Bajirao's wife where initially she was shown as a soldier fighting along side Bajirao. Kashi (Chopra ) beautifully played the role of a woman torn between fulfilling her life duty to love and support her husband and maintaining her own self respect by playing hot and cold with Mastani.
It would have been nice to see more longing and romance between Bajirao and both his wives to properly depict the drama behind it.
