Review of Baise-moi (2000) by David M — 12 Sep 2008
Alas. I was a bit disappointed by this. Yes, yes, I understand the premise (which has been incessantly repeated again and again and again, so I won't bother doing so again) but I had quite a bit of difficulty seeing how this in any way, shape or form, achieved the objectives of the directors.
Even if considered an exercise in nihilism (if that was the intent) I found it lacking. And why, oh why, the glorious hype regarding the graphic sex and violence? From the large warning on the cover to the detailed text trailer preceding the film, it smacked of the very same sensationalism and exploitation which I thought the movie was intended to rail against.
