Review of Baghead (2008) by Mike C — 06 Feb 2009
There's a twist at the very end that makes it worth waiting through the whole movie to see, but the relationship conflicts go absolutely nowhere and take the majority of the movie to 'develop'. Part of the problem with that and the 'mumblecore' genre in general is is that most of the dialog feels forced or pointless, especially coming from the older female actress (the scene where they're sitting at the table discussing what they want to do for their movie irked me, since she was stepping on everyone's lines with agreeing lines of her own). Also, it worried me about one of the characters, the younger girl... was she drunk the entire time or actually mentally handicapped? Why anyone would find her attractive was beyond me and never proved by the movie, but somehow it went that route.
I'm getting off track here... like I said, the movie is worth seeing once the twist happens, but it's a long road of sitting there wondering if anything is going to happen. There was one great horror cut in the first half of the movie that got me excited, but the payoff was awful later on during the chase until the accident and the twist.
Yikes... yeah, this is a really mixed review and I don't really even know if I'd truly recommend seeing it... :/ It's just one of those 'experience' movies.
