Raj Malhotra (Amitabh Bachchan) has a wife, Pooja (Hema Malini), and four sons. Like a gardener (Baghban) who plants a seed and nurses it to a tree with hopes of resting in its shade, Raj and Pooja have raised a well-educated brood who are all settled in their respective professions.
But when Raj retires, the children forsake responsibility for their parents so that Raj and Pooja must become dependent on the kindness of strangers.
