Review of Bad Words (2013) by Calvin C — 04 Aug 2014
Jason Bateman's directorial debut is a black comedy about a grown man who finds a loop hole and competes in a children's spelling bee. Bateman's character is mean, disrespectful, and unlikable. When we find out the real reason why he is there, it still doesn't make sense why he is such a jerk. However, because his is a bad person, there are some funny scenes involving some of the kids and one boy in which he reluctantly befriends. The movie might be a little too rough around the edges fro some, but I like Bateman's dark humor so I didn't mind.
Grade: B-.
