Review of Bad Words (2013) by Mark S — 07 Aug 2014
Totally unexpected...this is a great movie. I laughed my ass off...granted, I have a warped sense of humor but even so, this is funny. Jason Bateman, who like in most roles, both directed and starred in this film. It's about Bateman who finds a loophole in the national spelling bee and decides to compete. Why? He has his reasons. It can be crude, mean spirited and ruthless but I'll be damned, this movie kept me rolling. He develops a relationship with a 10 year old boy...and believe it or not, it works. They play off of each other and it almost becomes a buddy movie...I know, weird right? A 40 year old and a 10 year old, and it's not weird.
If you are looking for a laugh, I highly recommend this but be forewarned, if you're easily offended, steer clear. It's funny and it's got heart. I see it only made $7.8m. Unbelievable. It's better than most movies out.
