Jason Bateman is a revelation in this film as a storyteller and filmmaker, crafting a thoroughly enjoyable mean spirited comedy in the vein of "Bad Santa" and makes the topic of Spelling Bees as entertaining as any action/sport or type of event film.
The spelling sequences are like action sequences to a genre film, thoroughly enjoyable.
