Review of Bad Teacher (2011) by Jonathan M — 03 Dec 2012
Bad Teacher is so bleak in its personification of its main character, it's hard to ever get around the "She's a complete douchebag" aspect. At the same time, however, Diaz is the best thing about this movie. The commitment and effort that she puts into the role is commendable. However, the movies atmosphere is also its curse. It's just too mean without having the personification of someone like, say, Charlie from It's Always Sunny, or Jerry Seinfeld.
The only other aspect of the movie that is critical in its unfortunate mediocrity is that in all honesty, the humor just isn't good enough to hold this movie above water. Unfortunate, but in the end it just ends up being completely underwhelming.
And that really is the word: Unfortunate. It is such a shame that with a great cast and some truly committed performances, this movie ended up as it did.
