Review of Bad Teacher (2011) by Kevin O — 26 May 2013

Should have just been called "Bad Movie".

The tagline states "Some teachers just dont give an F".....and neither do some directors and writers. This was just bad with very few spots that had hope of developing into something. Jason Segel was good in small doses but his character is the typical guy that the main character doesn't like because she is chasing someone else, until she realises that he is the one. Done much better in Bridesmaids, by the way.

Cameron Diaz is not a good actress and putting her as the lead is a huge mistake, and for my money casting her as the blonde bombshell was a stretch almost 20 years ago when she first showed up in Mask, now it's just ludicrous.

The only one that can come out of this relatively unscathed is Lucy Punch as the protagonist to Diaz, although she is actually trying to do the right thing. She shows some range playing the sweet helpful teacher to the bat shit crazy jealous with rage girlfriend scorned. Although there were multiple allusions to an event in her path that she isn't proud but we never learn what that is. Actually you could make a great drinking game out of this movie if you do a shot every time a plot point gets introduced that leads absolutely nowhere.

This movie is filled with characters you just don't care about and jokes that are unoriginal and, even worse, repetitive. After an hour and a half I was so ready to leave the theater but still felt like I was waiting for the actual movie to start. If the popcorn I ate is what is considered "empty calories" then it was the perfect snack for this empty movie.
