Review of Bad Taste (1987) by Lexi . — 14 Jun 2009
Going off of title alone, you would be forgiven for thinking this was a documentary on the rabid fans of anything Twilight-related (and actually, that movie is probably being made as you read this). No, this is Peter "LOTR=OMG!Greatest movie eva!!" Jackson's first film and "low budget trash" doesn't even begin to describe this.
Aliens, that spend most of their time looking like zombies, land and are dicing up humans for fast food consumption back on their home planet. Four random guys (the most annoying of whom is played by Jackson) take the invaders on.
Ho-hum. Yeah, there are some hilarious scenes (someone ends up with someone else's arm lodged into their head, Sgt. Pepper cardboard cut-outs show up, a sheep literally explodes, etc.) but this is pretty tame stuff compared to what Jackson later offered in "Dead Alive.
" Yeah, there was no budget and no substantial cast to work with (and no women, apparently) but there is also not a whole lot of likability amongst our heros. To me, at least. Then again, it may all be worth it for the final 20 minutes of mass chaos.
And the exploding sheep, of course.
