Review of Bad Taste (1987) by Garrett R — 03 Dec 2010
BAD TASTE is a remarkably fun and irresistibly gory science fiction comedy horror film that has achieved cult status since its inception in 1987. Featuring his good friends as the para-military force Astro Investigation and Defense Service (AIDS, a none-too subtle nod to the decade's issues) and as a few of the bad guys, Peter Jackson's debut film biggest appeal is its fun factor.
And its fun factor comes from the slim yet unpredictable story, and the ongoing mystery of what the "aliens" look like and what their ultimate plans are. Knowing too much about this New Zealand Film Commission production would ruin the over-the-top fun of BAD TASTE.
And the gore, yes, the gore. Well, the gooey-ness and yucky nature of the red and somewhat realistic blood and guts is featured in plenty of scenes (especially in the amazing climax chock full of bullets and spurting blood!). All kinds of blunt objects and guns are utilized to produce these surprisingly explicit moments of gore.
BAD TASTE has tons of over-the-top fun going for it. The slim yet unpredictable story, gooey and yucky gore, as well as the mystery of the aliens' appearance and their ultimate plans. This film is approapriate viewing for fans of comedy-horror and gorefests, along with Peter Jackson's early career. Be ready for more Critiques and Opinions on Every Movie I Can Get my Hands On!
