Review of Bad Santa 2 (2016) by Jin T — 28 Jun 2018
After 13 years since the first movie, you would think no movie back then would get a sequel for a long, long time. But there have been over the years and it's a thing. So we got this movie. Billy Bob Thornton returns with Brett Kelly and Tony Cox. Along with a new cast. I didn't even know Christina Hendricks was in this one and wow, let me tell ya. She plays the typical role of a a desparate wife. But that's not the point I'm tyring to make and this movie is rubbing off on me after watching it. I even make myself any sense anymore.
Well a lot of random moments in this movie. Willie still living in a worse way possible but then a a big shot comes up and guess who appears? The little dude Marcus from the first movie. There was no character development whatsoever with his. And while it was great to see him again, I felt like he was just there. Kinda sucks when characters are injected into the story for just the sake of being there anyways.
Brett Kelly's character is the same ol' kid from the first movie but you see a little bit of progress of his character. But here's the thing, it didn't capture the essence like in the first movie and there were a lot of unnecessary things. It's as if the scenes were just made to be funny because it's a Bad Santa sequel.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this movie but it didn't get me to laugh so hard. Willie seeing his mother was really quite a strange dysfunctional display and it took quite a u-turn towards the end. I don't know if that supposed to be the biggest plot twist but it wasn't captivating at all and it just sucks.
Bad Santa 2 leaves a strange taste in your mouth that you can't quite figure out what it is. If there's going to be another sequel, I wouldn't mind watching it but it's not gonna be anytime soon.
