Review of Bad Samaritan (2018) by Michelle C — 03 May 2018
With anxiety levels rivaling that of seeing "Gone Girl," I watched this movie with my heart in my teeth and on the edge of my seat. This movie doesn't rely on supernatural horrors to make it an engaging thriller - rather, it looks deep into humanity and finds the fear in all of us.
Our hero is a woeful mess - he's not brave, he's not a genius, and he's got no idea how to handle the situation he's in. He's just a scared kid trying to make a wrong thing right. Is he out of his depth? Absolutely.
Which is what makes this movie such a successful thriller. We all like to think we'd be that daring hero that saves the day, but the truth is, when faced with danger, we panic and run. But that part of us that wants to be the hero will always try to go back and make it right.
Bad Samaritan teaches us what it means to be a real hero - and yes, sometimes that means being absolutely terrified.
