Review of Bad Samaritan (2018) by Andy T — 04 May 2018
For the life of me, I can't understand why this movie is almost 2 hours long. It's in desperate need of a good editor. The setup takes about 15 minutes, there are about 5-10 minute of really good serial killer David Tennant. Everything else is a waste of time. The protagonist is charming enough, but pretty much everyone who surrounds him is irrelevant, from his friend to his family to the various law enforcement professionals (who provide the silliest expository back story for the villain).
The last 15 minutes are actually good. There are strong character moments, there's humor, even some scares, and in those last moments you can really see this movie's potential as a fun horror thriller with a point of view. Unfortunately what precedes it is mostly (sometimes nonsensical) padding.
