Review of Bad Lieutenant (1992) by Gord T — 22 Nov 2007
They should have called this movie "Sad Lieutenant"; this movie kind of disappointed me. I was expecting a drug, alcohol and gambling addicted cop going around kicking ass, instead it went from one weird place to a shitty place.
I think the cover should've had keitel crying since it showed that more than him with a gun. the worst gun violence I saw in the whole movie was when he shot his radio after losing a great deal of money.
the worst violence I saw against a human was when he was slapping the guys and telling them to go rather than arrest them for raping a nun. I guess it was because he was fucked up? should we feel sorry for an asshole cop who is addicted to about everything and as crooked, heartless and perverted as they come? should we feel sad as he takes the chinamens money or blows his loads onto the girls dads car? this movie did a great job of making a cool asshole in the beginning leading an eccentric and carefree lifestyle as a high ranking cop to a film following a pathetic loser work his way into getting his ass killed.
it would've been better if he went around killing off his debt if he knew he was fucked instead of shooting up all the time. a little more of the bad cop and a little less of the sad cop. definately one I won't be recommending out.
.. at least to anyone wanting a kickass, tough cop movie.
