For a movie this disturbingly shocking, it can be ironically tear-jerkingly redemptive come the climax... in its own strange little way, it's almost a subversively edifying piece, PROVIDED one can get past the thematic rape scene and Keitel's titular anti-hero doing his absolute worst! Not for the squeamish or those young in the Christian faith!
