Harvey Keitel does drugs, is a cop, sees Jesus and the inevitably dies. The movie uses a lot of the 'lingering shot' style of filmaking, with really long shots of people sitting or walking, and not much else.
Sure there's grit and grain, but not all that much substance as a whole.
