The movie lives up to the name and is about a bad cop. The cop does drugs, drinks, shoots at unarmed suspects, and bets a lot of money on baseball. This movie is the definition of a gritty. There is violence and sex everywhere in this movie and it all centers around the crooked protagonist. It iis a movie about going on a downward spiral.

Harvey Keitel gives one of the most brillant performances I've ever seen in a film, he won the Independent Spirit award which is the show for indie films. Harvey Keitel creates a whole new definition of a gritty performance because the character is pure evil yet a part of you kind of wants to see him get his life back on track in the end. Everyone else gives good performances, but this is Harvey Keitel's show.

Abel Ferrara co- wrote and directed the movie. I think this movie is a test to see what audiences can handle because in honesty there were a few scenes even I fast forwarded through a few of the scenes. The movie does test how much you can handle you want to turn it off but you can't because the directing and acting is brilliant. This movie puts Reqieum of a Dream to shame because Bad Lieutenant is even more unflinching at its look on drugs and violence. The movie will stay with you long after the credits roll past.

This movie is a test to see what you the viewer can handle in a movie because at least one of the many shockings things will test your abitlity to watch.
