Review of Bad Lieutenant (1992) by Rocknblues 8 — 01 Jan 2010
Bad Lieutenant is a film that isn't for the weak heart or people that are easily offended. Harvey Keitel is great as the cop with next to know morals. The viewer is exposed to his low down behavior as he tries to solve the crime of a nun that was raped. We see him do drugs, have sex with prostitutes, and in general do one inhumane act after another.
It's over the top and it has some good elements and a solid performance, but the movie is never overly interesting and it just sort of leaves you to stomach his bad behavior. In better hands and a slightly better script this could be a masterpiece. Instead, it's a fairly pointless movie with no real direction.
