Review of Bad Lieutenant (1992) by Kevin R — 04 Jul 2011
You do something for me and I'll do something for you.
The Lieutenant is a bad cop that has issues with drug use, gambling, sexual misconduct, and abuse of authority. The Lieutenant is assigned a crucial case regarding a recent nun that was raped in Spanish Harlem. As he becomes more familiar with the case, he tries to understand how the nun can forgive the attackers. Will the case resolve the Lieutenant's poor behavior?
"Like many of the needy they were rude. Like almost all of the needy they took. Like all of the needy they need.".
Abel Ferrara, director of King of New York, Body Snatchers (1993), China Girl, The Funeral, The Blackout, and The Addiction, delivers Bad Lieutenant. The storyline for this picture had potential, along the lines of Training Day; but unfortunately, the plot never materializes as well as it could have. The acting was better than average and the cast delivers solid performances and includes Harvey Keitel, Paul Calderon, Frankie Thorn, Paul Hipp, and Stella Keitel.
"You got something to say to me, you rat-fucker?".
Bad Lieutenant was a film that grabbed my attention due to its star, Harvey Keitel. I have always enjoyed his movies; especially the Quentin Tarantino pictures, and decided to give this a shot. Unfortunately, the story for this movie was executed poorly despite its potential. The action scenes were good and the acting was solid but the movie is a bit disappointing as whole. I recommend skipping this film.
"The church is a racket.".
