Review of Bad Education (2004) by David A — 15 Jun 2010
(from The Watermark, 02/22/07 "SEXY GAY FLICKS").
In one of my foreign faves from Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, Francisco Boira is a famous filmmaker and Gael García Bernal is an old friend who he hasn't seen since they were children. Bernal happens to be an actor who has written a script that he wants to star in, but some identity issues don't completely wash. Is Bernal really who he says he is? Or could he just be playing Boira in order to get his big cinematic break? Well, at no time does the latter seem more plausible than an erotic bonding scene where the two men go for a swim together in their underwear. Bernal, a spicy bundle of Mexican hotness, playfully injects his character with great depth and lots of sexy charm to keep us constantly wondering.
