Review of Bad Education (2004) by Anna W — 18 Aug 2008
Another shallow but entertaining production by almodovar. His characters tend to be caricatures and none in this film have any redeeming features-that is besides the adult Enrique (Almodovar?). His mis-en-scene is always vibrant, flamboyant and comic indicating that his primary concern is attention to visual detail at the expense of fleshing out, giving substance to his protangonists.
Almodovar attmepts to take on issues that are relevant to contemporary Spain, such as the preponderance of the Catholic Church and its stifling effect, but falls short of dealing with these issues... As an aside Bernal does look stunning in drag.
