Review of Bad Education (2004) by Leon C — 26 Dec 2008
Almodovar's plot is a compelling framed narration of a foiled love story. its hyperlinked style interweaving the motion picture along with the characters' story turns it not only into a more interesting story, but also into one with far more value once it reaches its end.
Gael's performance once again spectacular. not only does his performance crush any conventional standards in the character's genre but it was so amusing to observe, this is why he should be up as one of the greatest actors alive!
The film itself was well beyond sad. certainly one of the most human tragedies of modern times. Certainly not to place the entire blame on Father Manolo but on his religion in general, given this is merely a message of how all of Catholicism's standards can destroy an infant's life; or anyone's in general. Ignacio is the product of Manolo's reckless acts, Enrique has never truly forgotten Ignacio, in fact he might just be the only true love he never had. the denouement was one I didn't expect, and it evoked more sorrow for the characters in the viewers' side.
Once again something definitely worth watching, and Gael is just an excellent performer, daring to take any role, I mean he took this one, how much more audacious can he get to be?
