Review of Bad Boys II (2003) by Jack C — 26 Oct 2009
Here we go again! "Bad Boys II" roars onto the screen like a quarterback on speed, crashing into the room and smashing up every expensive item in your living room. In Michael Bay's 'Book of Sequels' rule number one is 'more of everything times eleven million'.
And so in "Bad Boys II" we have more action (I think I counted about 7 legitimate gun fights), more car chases (about 5 I think), more bare skin (the club scenes are ridiculous as well are the crotch shots that Bay employs ever so frequently), more explosions (absolutely tonnes more), and more banter from our main leads.
The film is like watching a mentally unstable man being given an assault rifle and then recreating the Mona Lisa out of splattered blood. The humour is pushed so much harder than the first one with dead bodies, rat sex; basically all the hallmarks of one of AFI's greatest films of the century.
Of course Michael Bay doesn't care about that. He cares about giving the audience bang for their buck. That's why the film clocks in at an impressive 2 hours 20 minutes and honestly, I wish it could have carried on.
Endlessly ridiculous, endlessly entertaining "Bad Boys II" is a stupid film but in absolutely the best way.
