Review of Bad Boys II (2003) by Rudy H — 29 Jun 2014
This is the film that solidified the fact that no matter what else he does, Michael Bay will never ease up, he will only speed up. Like the first film, the star here is the chemistry between the two leads and the action. Personally I enjoy this film purely as a guilty pleasure. It is loud, stupid, atrocious, way overlong, offensive and fully overblown but if I had to be honest: total fun.
Smith and Lawrence don't skip a beat with their banter and somewhat make the overblown runtime bearable and while the action is over the top and excessive there's a strange admittedly artistic (I know what I said) manner the the way it all plays out. (that Cuban mansion explosion is a thing of beauty, folks) It's nothing more than the stupidest of entertainment but for me it's also the best kind of stupid. RATING: C+.
