Review of Bad Boy Bubby (1993) by Jo K — 11 Apr 2008
Bad Boy Bubby is at first glance a dark Lynch meets mondo exploitation picture, but under the surface there is a truly thoughtful and thought provoking story. Not for the narrow minded but if you have a broader frame of reference then thereâ??s plenty to appreciate here.
Unleashed on the world at the age of 35, naïve and guileless Bubby makes his way into society for the 1st time. Though he often does horrific and terrible things, its clear he is nothing but a mirror for society, meeting many varied characters and situations he finally finds his place in a world that is just as messed up as he is.
At times remenisant of David lynch but in my opinion far better than that as de Heer clearly cares about his character and is interested in more than just weird for weirdness sake, he has more respect for his audience too.
