Review of Bad Ass (2012) by The D — 16 Apr 2012
A very enjoyable vigilante revenge story. There's nothing original in the plot which sees Frank Vega(Trejo), a Viet Nam vet, forced to take matters into his own hands when the police seem unwilling to pursue his best friend's murder. Having already become an internet sensation after defending a elderly gentleman on a city bus in quite spectacular fashion Vega has made some new friends not least his suffering neighbour and her little boy.
It's a quirky & laid back movie as Trejo plods around with nothing more than a bat at any time. Dressed in shorts with a bumbag the film has it's tongue firmly in it's cheek.
The acting to be fair is not all that bad. There's good support that you would expect from the likes of Charles S Dutton & fleetingly from Perlman. The real surprise is that there's some really random humour physical & verbal.
Definitely not to be taken seriously this is a great 90 minutes of fun.
