Review of Backstreet Boys: Show 'Em What You're Made Of (2015) by Rose T — 31 Jan 2015
As a documentary this film is beautifully constructed, gracefully interweaving the band's present day drama with an intimate look into each member's personal upbringing and road to the band's formation.
The boys narrate their story as a group to the audience, while allowing us to witness them opening up to each othe about their pasts. This is not some tired extended episode of behind the music or self gratifying propoganda to promote their current musical endevors or even some nostalgic look back at "the good ol' days", this is a well directed, thought provoking, and compeling depiction of five men exuding suprising depth and sincerity.
this is the Backstreet Boys raw, unfiltered, in their truest form. not pandering to fans, not seeking attention; this is a story of the ameriecan dream, rags to riches, rise and fall and rise again. a fan might say they've showed us the shape of their hearts, or what they're made of.
..but what they've really showed us here is the virture of counting your blessings, working with what you're given, staying humble, and doing what you love. A satisfying watch for fans and non-fans alike!
