Review of Backdraft (1991) by Kevin H — 16 Apr 2009
Fire..fire..FIRE!! This may be the first film that I've ever seen that has a dedicated obsession with fire, but it is that very obsession which allows us to see it in all its glory. A well plotted story with just enough twists to qualify it as a mystery (even if it is predictable) and some strong performances from Russell, Glenn, De Niro and Baldwin help this film along nicely.
Donald Sutherland is excellent in a minor supporting role, he really gets under your skin. This movie may obsess over fire, but that's really what we all wanted to see anyways. The cinematography is superb and really makes us feel as if we are in the midst of a burning building.
